Founders Message

As a former Lead Portfolio Manager for the small/mid-cap strategies at a large Canadian bank – I broke away to start Forterra Investment Management as an independent boutique to work directly with clients – to help them achieve their financial goals.

I didn’t take the typical path to being a Bay Street Portfolio Manager. My blue-collar roots, entrepreneurial spirit, and independent thinking put me at odds with most of my peers – but that often allows me to see things from a different perspective.

I am uniquely positioned to hunt down good ideas, do the research, meet with management, walk the factory floors, take a differentiated view, and think long-term.

Researching and investing in smaller companies is a passion for me. Having the privilege of working directly with clients in helping them compound their wealth through time gives me purpose. The combination of the two is my competitive advantage – and my commitment to constant learning will help me build on this advantage over time.

  • Founder, Portfolio Manager

    Robert was the former Lead Portfolio Manager for the small/mid-cap strategies at a large Canadian bank before founding Forterra as an independent boutique.

    He has over 20 years of diverse investment industry experience. His unconventional journey rooted in his blue-collar origins and his entrepreneurial spirit gives him a unique perspective.

    Researching and investing in smaller companies is a passion for him, along with continuous learning.

    When not at his desk, he is an avid traveler and enjoys reading, cooking, drinking tea, meditation, and yoga.

    Robert has a Masters degree in International Securities, Investments, and Banking from the University of Reading, and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Windsor.

    He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) a Certified Investment Manager (CIM), and a registered Portfolio Manager with the Ontario Securities Commission.

  • Research Analyst

    Mauricio melds the dynamic world of tech with the art of value investing. His journey spans launching a SaaS startup, leading a digital asset investment partnership, and participating in Google’s LatAm expansion.

    This led to partnering with former Google colleagues and scaling a digital agency that was acquired by Publicis Groupe.

    A keen value investor, Mauricio has taken courses at the Ben Graham Centre for Value Investing at the Ivey Business School and is a CFA level 3 candidate.

    He finds inspiration in running and is a dedicated writer, sharing his insights through his blog.

    Mauricio graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Universidad de San Andres in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
